About the Department of Dentistry/OMFS
Jacobi Medical Center, located on Pelham Parkway in the Morris Park section of the Bronx, serves the residents of the Bronx, southern Westchester, as well as New Yorkers from the greater metropolitan area. Jacobi is the largest public hospital in the Bronx and offers a complete range of acute, general, specialty, and psychiatric services. Jacobi operates community-based health care centers that provide adult and pediatric exams and screenings. Jacobi serves thousands of community residents, and is a Level 1 trauma center, serving the north Bronx and lower Westchester.
Jacobi is the main site for emergency dental care, operating room care, and the primary training site for oral maxillofacial surgery training. The dental clinic at Jacobi is the main site for comprehensive ambulatory adult and pediatric dental care. The Rose F. Kennedy center, also on site, delivers dental care to patients with developmental disabilities. Its designation as a Level 1 traumatizes center allows dental residents to work side-by-side with emergency room personnel to care for those who have sustained dentofacial trauma.
The Department of Dentistry/OMFS sponsors residencies in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, dental anesthesiology, and dental public health, as well as a post-graduate fellowship in craniofacial orthodontics. Oral and maxillofacial surgery training is provided in conjunction with Mt. Sinai Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; it is a six year program. Each of our residencies are fully accredited by the ADA’s Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Residents function as associates of the attendings, providing appropriate care to their assigned patients. Our programs are designed to help the resident find diverse clinical experience and grow in confidence while under the guidance of experienced practitioners. Our dental programs work together, in a team approach, to provide comprehensive care for both in- and out-patients. Our dental public health resident, the only one in New York, affords its residence to gain experience in community dentistry programs as well.
